2nd swing - [ action ]
[With everything that's happened, Cato isn't the least bit surprised when the trees start talking and people are transported hundreds of miles away from the village just by opening and closing a door. Cato learns his lesson when Clove and Peeta end up in the mountains and props open all the doors in Clove's apartment to save himself that kind of trouble. He managed to keep a pretty level head until he actually paid attention to what one of the trees outside the community housing was saying.]
-- scared of dogs, can you believe it? Dogs! I saw him lose it just looking at a puppy!
[It was as if someone had shoved ice down his back. Cato knew instantly that they were talking about him. That was all the motivation Cato needed to go lumberjack on these stupid talking trees. He grabbed an axe and started hacking away at it's base. It was a thinner tree, so there wasn't much work involved but it still took time. If it screamed while he cut it down, he didn't care. He just wanted to get rid of it and send a message to the other stupid trees: don't talk about him and he won't cut you down. Simple as that.
For the rest of the day, Cato seems to be coping with the whole 'talking trees' thing fairly well. Until: ]
Clove? Well, according to my sources, she's got a major crush on the boy from District Twelve.
[He doesn't freak out or turn red with anger. He just laughs and chops the tree down on principal. Cato doesn't at all enjoy it either. Nope.]

Archie sees an out-of-control teen? The lieutenant starts to come out.

Cato propped his ax against his shoulder, giving Archie a stink eye to end stink eyes as he did so. He didn't have a respectful bone in his body, except perhaps for his parents and his trainers. But even that was pushing it. Archie was no one to him, so it was like he'd been given permission to just do what he wanted and damn the consequences.

"The tree. I'd hate to think you were tempting fate for no reason at all. Cutting down trees in the woods on one's own isn't safe with Moro lurking about. Or are you a new feather?"

His ignorance makes his status obvious. Though he might just be another stupid walking muscle who decided that he didn't like how much the trees were talking. Still, he had no idea what he was messing with by chopping down those trees.

[Or with cause, but…]

A wolf.
[Cato repeated it dully, not as sturdy as he hoped he would sound. With his grip on the ax slacking somewhat, Cato lowered the sharpened weapon.]

On the other though....giant wolf in the forest.
Decisions, decisions. ]
Whatever.
[But he's picking up his ax and is actually walking away from the felled trees. Bravo, Archie!]

She changes directions at that point, eventually seeing some kid a few years younger than her going at the woods with an axe. Amelia shakes her head, staying far enough back to avoid any collateral damage, but calls out to the guy.]
You know, really don't think you can take out every tree in Luceti. Not that I don't appreciate wanting to.

[It's said with a panting breath; he isn't used to chopping down trees and while it is intensely satisfying to hear their stupid gossip be reduced to remarks about what a little savage he was it is tiring. He swipes his arm across his forehead - mopping up sweat.]

[After all, the buildings are self-repairing. Amelia fully expects the trees to be too.]

She hasn't see the tall boy before, but the fact that he's gleefully taking an ax to a tree speaks volumes. She can't really blame him, but she can't help flinching, either. Still, might as well let him know she's there before she accidentally startles him.]
...I'm not sure that'll stop them.
[action]
Makes me feel a lot better.
[action]
And then it's gone. One flash of uneasy deja vu, and then she's back in Luceti. And while something is still unsettling about this strange boy, she can't really judge him on what she just saw. After all, she hadn't been very happy about what she'd heard the trees saying, either]
It might be easier just to avoid them until this is over.

[He can't even trust the apartment he lives in to let hem stay there without being transported into the damn mountains or something. Clove is gone and stuck with Lover Boy and nothing else for miles. Meanwhile the trees decided to say the most outrageous things...]
"I heard that Cato is a big softie! I'm talkin' like adoptin' stray kittens soft!"
[The beet red blush that appears on Cato's face is unmistakable. What the tree said is a lie, but it's still embarrassing. A low, grumbled swear is all he says before rounding on the tree and brandishing the ax as if he intended to sink it into the wood.
The tree instantly changed tactics and began wailing about someone else and their mother. Whatever, it wasn't about him or Clove - it didn't matter.]
S'what I thought.
[action]
[Jilly pales, but she doesn't move from where she's standing back away from Cato and his ax, and she does her best to keep her voice steady]
They're easier to ignore when you're not in the middle of the woods.

There's still at least a mile of clear land in the middle. It might help.
