deadalready | 9th Swing [Video]

[The video lights up on Cato's face as he watches something off-screen with a very fixed look. Whatever it is, it grabbed his attention just before he opened his journal. It's only a few seconds before he looks back at the page and clears his throat.]

So does anyone want to tell me who's responsible for this --

[The video cuts away a moment, blurring as he shifts to stealthily show Clove hunkered down over some small piece of wood in her hands with a look of very intense concentration her face. There are little bandages peppering her fingers and she looks like she's trying to cut the little piece into something smaller. She keeps shaving away at it.

The video jerks back to Cato's very bemused face.]

I have no idea what she's doing. But it's been going on for days now and I'm a little....weirded out. Every time I tell her to stop because it's making her upset she just yells at me and she won't even show me what she's doing with it.

This is the first time she's cut herself with her knives in years. I don't think I've seen her this bad with one since we were thirteen and just starting out with our weapons.

Someone told her to do this, didn't they? It just...doesn't make sense for her.

Well, that's good she's picked up some hobbies like that.

If I knew who suggested it I'd let them know just how "good" it was.

[He sounds too vaguely threatening to be anything but that. But he truly has no idea who gave her the idea. All he knows is that he really dislikes them.]

Why's it bad she's got a hobby?

She keeps yelling at me!

All it's doing is frustrating her, so I tell her to take a break and she acts like I told her to stab herself on purpose.

[Pouting all around.]

Yeah, but with those sorts of hobbies, it's really rewarding when you make a finished product! Like when I started cooking I made all sorts of mistakes, but when I got better it was fun.

[A beat] Sorry you're gettin' yelled at though.

Cooking's...okay.

[He likes it a lot more than he lets on.]

She's always a pain. This is just...more than usual.

Yeah! I've been doing it forever.

What kind of food?

I'd say I'm best with modern style Japanese stuff, like I'm okay with oden or rolled omelets, but I'm also not bad with sushi or sashimi, but I'm probably best with one-pot dishes. I grew up in a monestary after all, so there were all sorts of people you had to feed with a limited sort of budget. Since comin' here though, I've been making all sorts of stuff at Seventh Heaven, so I've been branching out! No way I could handle something like fancy French cooking, but corn bread or gumbo? I've gotten way better at stuff like that, or even skirt steaks, hamburgers, salads...
